SERIES 01

Matchbox

Matchbox (Series 01) is an ongoing collection that documents the fauna of South Asia that are most critically at risk of extinction.

Each piece highlights a species and its local name. Animals play a critical role not only in our ecosystems but also in our culture - this project is an ode to the beautiful creatures that we still have the chance to share our world with.

  • 1/1 art

This 1/1 NFT collection is hand sketched, digitally illustrated and animated. It was created as part of Canada’s first NFT residency for underrepresented creators.

  • Intent

Each piece highlights a species and its local name to raise awareness about the role these animals play in our planet and our culture.

  • Threat level

At the time of creation, each species was classified as Critically Endangered, Endangered or Vulnerable, with declining populations by the ICUN Red List of Threatened Species.

  • Proceeds

15% funds WildlifeSOS to protect and conserve India’s natural heritage, forest and biodiversity, and 15% funds Elevate’s next NFT creator residency.

The humble matchbox

The most accessible form of Indian
pop art isn’t found in museums or
art galleries. Instead, the humble,
commonly-found, and mass-produced Indian matchbox is a staple piece of art that lives in most South Asian homes.

This vast volume of quirky art was driven by what was important, relevant and appealing to the culture at that time. So over many decades, countless designers have unintentionally documented cultural history through matchboxes.

This series intentionally adds to that story.
